Email: the Web
Your Duke Statistics email is accessible via the web at http://my.duke.edu/. Login with your Duke Statistics username and password. This system serves several other departments, so make sure you select Duke Statistics from the Server list.
The system loads your inbox by default. Additional mail
folders from your ~/mail/
directory are available via the
list in the top-left corner of the page. Some mail programs put additional
folders in ~/Mail/
(note the uppercase M). If this is the
case for you, and you need to access these folders, talk to the systems
administrator.
Unix Logins: SSH
If you are using a Windows machine which does not have an SSH client and you don't have permission to install one, you can run PuTTY directly from here. You will be asked what you would like to do with the file; select "Run the program from its current location." When the program appears, type the hostname of an Duke Statistics machine in the Host Name box. When you connect to a machine for the first time, you will be warned that the host's key is unknown; just click Yes.
VNC to your Linux Desktop
Directions for setting up VNC to allow remote access to your graphical login environment on your Linux desktop are available at http://wiki.stat.duke.edu/SecureVNC.
Everything Else: the VPN
Some resources at Duke can only be accessed from a computer on Duke's network. If you need to access these resources from elsewhere, you can use the VPN to virtually attach your computer to Duke's network. For more information, see OIT's VPN page.
