Relevant Topics

This exam focuses on topics covered in lecture from February 26 through and including April 2. These topics include:

Questions on material discussed in lectures prior to February 26 may still be covered on the exam, although the emphasis is on the newer material.  Specifically, the emphasis is on working with linear combinations and on computing and understanding/interpreting confidence intervals and hypothesis tests.

You should know how to form confidence intervals and test statistics given relevant information, and you should be able to interpret p-values and confidence intervals.  You should know when to use matched pairs methods and when to use 2 separate samples methods.  You do not need to know the pooled two-sample procedures described in the book; use the Welch-Satterthwaite procedures described in class.

Logistics

The exam is in class on Wednesday, April 11.

Write all answers in exam paper.  Answer all questions concisely and clearly.  Pay attention to instructions that limit the number of sentences you should write when answering.  Extra verbiage may be not be read or may be penalized.

For the exam, you are allowed to use one sheet of 8 by 11 paper filled with any information you want to put on them.  Both sides of the sheet can be used.  You are not permitted to use any other material for the exams.

You may be asked to do calculations involving the normal curve, t-curve, and chi-squared curve.  Bring a sheet with the tables for each curve.

Bring a calculator to the exam.

Suggestions for Studying

Useful ways to study for these exams include reviewing the extra problems and text problems, and doing the practice problems below.  You might copy various problems from the text book and Supplement, erasing the problem number so that you don't know which chapter it comes from.
