STA103: Directions for getting started with CourseInfo

Fall Term, 2000

We will be using CourseInfo software to maintain the primary web site for our class. This software provides a mechanism for the teaching staff to post course documents, assignments, announcements, etc. so that they can be accessed by students. Since it also controls what information can be seen/edited by various users, the teaching staff will also be able to post grades and collect/disburse other information through the web site. Each student who enrolls in STA103 before the end of add/drop period is automatically entered into the list of authorized users and provided with a unique password, so that only s/he can see personal information (i.e. grades). Until the enrollment of our class is finally determined, I will also be maintaining the "public" web site hosted by Duke Statistics at http://www.stat.duke.edu/courses/Fall00/sta103 so that all students on the waitlist (and therefore not yet known to the CourseInfo server) can access relevant information at the "public" site.

As soon as you are officially enrolled in STA103 (not on the waitlist), you can use these steps to log into the STA103 CourseInfo site:

  1. All CourseInfo passwords were reset on Aug. 21, 2000 as part of an effort to improve CourseInfo and University network security. You will need to obtain your Fall 2000 CourseInfo password by accessing the CourseInfo password secure retrieval web site at:

    https://ing.acpub.duke.edu/cgi/pass.cgi.

    You will use your ACPUB ID and password to retrieve your CourseInfo userid and password. (If you're certain you've remembered your password correctly, but this step isn't working, make sure your browser is configured to accept "cookies".)   2. To see the STA103 CourseInfo page, go to http://cinfo.aas.duke.edu/courses/STA103.01-F2000. A window should appear asking for the CourseInfo userid and password that you just obtained. Please bookmark this page, as you will refer to it often!

  3. I think you will find navigating the CourseInfo site to be fairly easy - you just use the buttons on the left side of the pages to guide you through the various types of information available.
