STA104/MTH135: Probability
Homework #5: Continuous Random Variables
Due: Friday, Oct 5
Text Problems are from Sheldon Ross, A First Course in Probability
(6th/5th edns).
- Problems (pp. 228/232ff)
- Exercises (pp. 232/237ff)
- Another Problem
The probability density of X, the lifetime of a certain
electronic device (measured in hours), is given by
f(x)=10/x² for x>10 and f(x)=0 for
x<10.
- Find P[X>20]
- Find the cumulative distribution function for X.
- Find the hazard function for X. Is it increasing or decreasing
on the interval x>10?
Good Luck!
