PROPOSED GRADING POLICY

This is a tentative plan for grading policies. Please let us have your comments by email, before we finalize the plan around Sep 15.

Split of course total

Exams and homeworks will be weighted by the following percentages:

Letter grades

A rule for assigining letter grades will be coordinated with instructirs of other 110 classes, to guarantee a reasonably uniform grading scheme. This will likely mean that we will grade on a curve.

The dog ate my homework rule

The lowest homework score will be dropped from the calculation of the final grade.

Final Exam

The final exam will be open book and will test material from the entire semester.

Grade appeals

For exams: write a short note of your concern, and hand it to me together with your exam. If you find someone with more points for the same answer, show me both exams. I will not downgrade the other exam.

For homeworks: We will consider grade revisions on homeworks only within a week after returning the homework (except of course outright grading mistakes like wrong addition of points etc.) Again, write a short note and hand it to your TA.

Honor Code

Cheating on exams, plagiarism on homework and projects, and other forms of academic dishonesty are violations of the Duke Honor Code and will be referred to the Duke Undergraduate Judicial Board.
