MINITAB
Minitab is a software package specifically designed for teaching
statistics. We will use it in recitations and homework. You can find it
on PC's, MAC's and UNIX machines.
Explore this site for
a list of PC, MAC and UNIX computer clusters around campus, and to find
out whether a computer cluster is reserved.
If you are using a PC, Minitab works interactively and should be fairly
self-explanatory. You will also see many of the commands and options in
recitation.
You can upload the Minitab worksheets with the examples and exercises
from the book directly from the diskette that comes with the book, from
the subdirectory "minitab".
The same files are also available in the "Statistics and Mathematics"
subdirectory on the PC hard disk. They are on drive H, under "programs",
"class" and then "sta110b".
The same datasets are also available in ascii and JMP format, in
the same places. If you want to stick to minitab, you won't need to
worry about about those formats though.
If you are using Unix, you can find a brief tutorial
here
In alternative to Minitab you can use anything you want. There is
no requirement that you should use minitab to do your homework. However,
minitab is a good deal because it's easy, datasets are prepared
specifically for it, and TA's are ready to assist you with it. If you
use something else you are a lot more on your own.
