Homework assignments will be made weekly (with possible exceptions). Assignments will not be collected or graded. You will find working homework problems to be very good preparation for quizzes and exams.
Quizzes will be administered in your weekly recitation section (your attendance is not optional). They will be short, lasting approximately 15 minutes, and will test you on your mastery of topics covered on the most recent homework assignment. Your lowest two quiz grades will not be included in your quiz average. Hand calculators may be used. Makeup quizzes will not be given.
Two exams will be given over the course of the semester. One will be an in-class exam, the other will be a final administered Tuesday December 14th, 9am-Noon in Soc Sci 136. Hand calculators may be used. Makeup exams will only be given in case of documented emergency.
Participation in weekly computer lab exercises will be recorded (yes/no). You will not be penalized for missing two or fewer sections.
A project will be assigned during the second half of the semester. You may work alone or in a group of two or three class members. It will be most convenient if group members are from the same lab section as the last 4 or 5 labs will be given over to the project analysis.
*Note: Together the midterm exam and final exam are worth 1/2 of your final grade. The best of the two exams (highest score) will count 30% of your final grade, the worst 20%.
