Splus Links:

NCSU S-Lab is an introduction to statistics and Splus from NC State University. To get going, start Splus on the Duke Statistics computer system and, from within Splus, type 'attach.slab()' and 'setup.slab()'.

Mike West's Splus links contain a cheatsheet and some tips about running Splus within emacs, printing on the acpub clusters, and other useful things.

Description

Prerequisites for the course are:

proficiency in some computing language (for example: C, FORTRAN, Splus, Matlab, Mathematica)
some proficiency in statistics. We will assume that students are familiar with basic statistics (common probability distributions like the normal, binomial, and gamma; conditional and bivariate distributions; but not with advanced probability theory.

Class requirements:

Students may select one of the topics TIME SERIES or MULTISCALE METHODS and attend corresponding lectures. The class requirement is a project that fits into one of the class themes. More details will be given at the first class meeting.
