STATISTICS 110E PROJECT (20% of the grade) (i) Hard copy (2). To be graded and returned at the time of Final. (ii) Modern option: WEB version site. If this is preferred by your group, please send me an email with the address of the page and emails of all group members. The project grade will be emailed back to the group members, prior to Final time. PROJECT FORMAT (i) Introduction and formulation of the problem 1-3 pages. (ii) Description of the data used. -- previously published data (exact references needed) -- means of data acquisition (questionary, email, phone, flier, interview, ...) -- if the data set is not large in size, list the data (not to exceed 3 pages) (iii) Discussion of the statistical procedure to be used. -- be careful about such things as large sample size and CLT; independence issue, categorical and numerical data, etc -- short theoretical overview of the statistical procedure (your text is sufficient, not to exceed a page) (iv) Software implementation. Attach scripts and outputs. Default is MINITAB, but any other software that can do statistics is suitable, as well. -- If your output takes many pages, summarize it. (v) Your conclusions (not to exceed 2 pages) Format is not fixed, however, and you may not follow the points from above. CRITERIA FOR EVALUATION (in decreasing order of importance) -- no identical project in our ISDS archive (taken into account only if there is one). -- appropriateness of the statistical model and procedure to the problem in hand. -- relevance and quality of your data with respect to stated problem. -- selection of nontrivial problem (problems concerning biology and psychology are natural for the course). -- good penmanship. IRRELEVANT FOR THE GRADE -- fancy, expensive project covers -- # of people working on the project
