STA244 Linear Models Spring 2001
Obtaining S-Plus 2000
The University has a site license for S-Plus that allows students to download
a copy of S-Plus 2000 for free! The compressed files are just over 100 MB, so
downloading this requires either a fast direct connection (ethernet, LAN, a fast
ADSL connection or a cable modem). The files may be downloaded to a Zip Drive
on campus and later installed on your computer (if you have a ZIP drive :-). It
is not recomended that you attempt to download the program using a standard 56k
or slower modem! To run S-Plus 2000, it is recommended that you have a Pentium
processor and a minumum of 32 MB RAM.
If you do not have a fast connection to the internet OR a Zip drive, then you
may obtain a CD with the software from the OIT Help Desk in the North Building
for $30. Please pay be check, credit card (Visa or Mastercard) or departmental
IR.
And if all else fails, you can always use S-Plus 2000 in the public PC clusters
on campus or S-Plus on UNIX workstations!
To obtain the software:
- First file out the OIT
software request form
You must complete ALL fields on the form.
You must enter your statistics class (i.e. STA244) in the comments
field. If you do not complete the class info you will not be able to download
the program for free or purchase the CD-rom.
- You will receive an e-mail reply with instructions/options for getting the
software. Software requests take 1-2 business days to process.
- Once you receive the email from site-licensing, follow the enclosed instructions.
If you are planning on downloading the software, open the specified URL in
your browser. Double click on the S-Plus2000.exe file to begin the
download procedure to save the compressed archive file to your ZIP drive or
computer. If you are purchasing the CD, get the CD from the OIT Help Desk
(North Building) then continue with step 5.
- Once the file has been downloaded to your hard drive, double click on S-Plus2000.exe
to extract the compressed archive files into a folder (say SPLUS2000).
- In your SPLUS2000 folder or on the CD there will be a file called
license key. This contains the serial number/key for installing
the software. Double click on the file to open it or use your favorite editor
to open it and make a note of the serial number.
- To install the software, double click on the Setup icon. When prompted
for the serial number enter the license key/serial nmber from 5. Use the default
responses to complete the rest of the installation.
- When you are finished to run S-Plus 2000, you may start it by going to your
Start menu (bottom left) and selecting Programs, then S-PLUS
2000, and S-PLUS 2000. (you may also want to create a Shortcut
