Statistics and Data Analysis in Economics

Text and Notes

Thomas and Ronald Wonnacott's Introductory Statistics for Business and Economics is required for class and is available in the bookstore.

Wonnacott, T. and R. Wonnacott (1990). Introductory Statistics for Business and Economics, Fourth Edition, New York: John Wiley and Sons.

Class lecture notes are available at the Duke book store and consist of copies of the transparencies to be used in class. The transparencies are not complete, hence the notes are not a substitute for class attendence, rather they are a note-taking aid intended to facilitate class participation! Lecture notes will be updated and supplemented regularly.

Online Resources

The World Wide Web has a growing number of sites related to statistics education. Here are few links, the first two to online texts (no substitute for the required text, however), the third to a list of links that may serve as a springboard to statistics education on the web, and the last to a list of mostly online data sources.
HyperStat Online by David Lane of Rice.
Statistics: The Study of Stability in Variation by Jan de Leeuw of UCLA.
Data Links (Mostly) data related links on the Web.

In a more traditional medium: Against All Odds: Inside Statistics, is a series of video tapes covering introductory statistics and data analysis techniques peppered with excellent real-world examples. Tapes are available in Lilly A-V library (call number 3988).
