Statistics for Engineering and the Sciences
by Mendenhall and Sincich. Prentice Hall.
About the course: the course is an introduction to
statistical reasoning, and includes a review of the necessary elements
of probability theory. Applications in various branches of engineering
will be stressed. Understanding of each of the topics relies on the
material preceding it: it is important to master each topic as soon as
it is covered.

Homework
Weekly problem sets are due on Monday at 9:30am.
-
For Section 01 (Natasha,
F 1:10-2pm), please drop your homeworks to
Natasha's mailbox in Engineering Annex, Room 118A. It opens by 8:30am.
It's building #48 on this Map
- For Section 02 (Shu-hua, F 2:20-3:10)
please drop your homeworks in a folder outside my office door. The
folder will be fixed on a board between rooms 219 and 219A Old Chemistry
Building.
- If your group has members from both sections, please drop it off
for Section 02
(Section 02 has much lower
enrollment, and we are trying to even out the workload for the TAs).
Clearly mark the section number for each group member
- Please clearly indicate on top of the first page of each
homework assignement:
- Homework number.
- Names and Section numbers.
Homeworks without this information will not be graded.
The lowest homework score will be dropped. Beyond this late homework
will not be accepted (since solutions will be posted on the WWW).
You can always submit assignments before the due date.
We will ask you to work on homeworks in groups of around 4 students
each.
See Group Work Rules for
a few comments and
rules about group work on the homework assignments.
See the Assignments page for current
homework problems, hints and solutions.
Homeworks will be returned in the recitation section on Friday.
Please make sure to collect all your homeworks.
