Administrative Concerns

Grading policy: Final grades for STA 110B will depend on the student's performance on quizzes, exams, and a project, and on participation (yes/no) in weekly computer exercises. These components will be weighted as follows:

Quizzes 20% Weekly
Lab Participation 10% Weekly
Exam 1 25% March 9
Final 25% Wedn 5/5, 9am-noon
Project 20% April 27

Homework assignments will be made weekly (with possible exceptions). Assignments will not be collected or graded. You will find working homework problems to be very good preparation for quizzes and exams.

Quizzes will be administered in your weekly recitation section (your attendance is not optional). They will be short, lasting approximately 15 minutes, and will test you on your mastery of topics covered on the most recent homework assignment. Your lowest two quiz grades will not be included in your quiz average. Hand calculators may be used. Makeup quizzes will not be given.

Two exams will be given over the course of the semester. One will be an in-class exam, the other will be a final administered at a time to be decided by the University. Hand calculators may be used. Makeup exams will only be given in case of documented emergency.

Participation in weekly computer lab exercises will be recorded (yes/no). You will not be penalized for missing two or fewer sections.

A project will be assigned during the second half of the semester. The purpose of the class project is to provide you with the experience of carrying out a more or less complete statistical analysis.
